Make Money Living

Six months, in weeks

Stated as a schedule rather than a promise. The durations vary between people; the order does not, and the order is the useful part.

Weeks 1-4: setup and first output

Subject chosen, automation configured, first pieces published. Almost no reach, which is correct - nothing has been categorised yet.

Judging anything from this period is judging noise. The only meaningful question is whether output happened.

Weeks 5-8: the flat stretch

Output continues, reach stays small, nothing visible improves. This is where most people stop and it is where the least is actually wrong.

What is happening underneath is placement - the systems accumulating enough consistent material to work out who to show it to. It is invisible from outside and it is the whole job at this stage.

Weeks 9-16: first movement

Something reaches beyond your followers. Then something else. Reach becomes less random and starts responding to what you publish rather than to chance.

First conversations arrive here for most people, and the first small commission usually follows conversations rather than preceding them.

Weeks 17-26: compounding becomes visible

Older pieces continue being found while new ones are published, so the total grows faster than the effort does. This is the point at which the work starts feeling different.

Nothing about the weekly routine changes here. What changes is that the stock is large enough for its returns to be noticeable.

Where the variance between people comes from

Subject choice, mostly, and consistency second. Two people publishing the same volume on different subjects can be a month apart on placement, and neither did anything differently in terms of effort.

That is worth knowing because a slow start reads as a personal failing and is more often a choice made in week one that could be narrowed now.

What people misread at each stage

StageCommon misreading
Weeks 1-4"The content must be bad"
Weeks 5-8"This does not work"
Weeks 9-16"That reach was luck"
Weeks 17-26"I should have started sooner"

The first two cause almost all the attrition. Both are about a stage where nothing was supposed to be visible yet.

What moves someone through the stages faster

Narrowness, more than effort. An account about one specific thing gets placed sooner than one about a broad subject, which shortens the flat stretch directly.

The instinct is to keep the subject wide so as not to exclude anyone. It is the single most common early mistake and it lengthens every stage above.

The caveat that matters

These are the stages, not guarantees. Some people move faster, some slower, and some publish for six months on a subject nobody searches for and see none of it - which is a subject-choice problem rather than a timeline problem.
